How we source and attribute stories

Sourcing

Articles cite the public records, contracts, court filings, company statements, and named parties' own accounts they rely on. Where a claim comes from one party to a dispute rather than an independent finding, the article says so.

Attribution

Statements of fact are distinguished from allegations and from a party's own characterization of events. Court outcomes are described as the record states them, not as either party summarizes them.

Corrections

If a factual error is identified in a published article, the article is corrected and the correction is dated.
