How bin store pricing works
A bin store does not price items. It prices days. Goods go into open bins on restock day at one price, and that price falls each day until the bins are empty and the cycle restarts.

The mechanic
A typical cycle opens with a high per-item price on restock day and steps down daily, ending at a nominal figure before the next restock. Customers self-select: the ones who want first pick pay the premium, the ones who want volume wait. The operator does not have to know what any individual item is worth, which is the point, because sorting and pricing individual units would cost more than the units are worth.
It is the same logic as a Dutch auction, applied to a room instead of a lot.
Why it works at the end of the chain
By this point the merchandise has been picked over by every buyer upstream. What remains is heterogeneous, unpredictable and low-value per unit, and any system that requires per-item decisions loses money on handling alone. A declining schedule converts an impossible pricing problem into a scheduling problem.
This is the final commercial stop described in the surplus chain, and the pallets that feed it come from the auctions described in liquidation auction mechanics.
What it reveals
The prices in a bin store are the market's honest estimate of what unsorted surplus is worth once handling is priced in. For anyone valuing a bulk lot upstream, that floor is worth knowing: it is what the slow part of an assortment is ultimately competing against.
Questions
Why do bin stores lower prices each day?
To let customers self-select between first pick at a premium and volume at a discount, without pricing individual items.
Where does bin store merchandise come from?
Mostly from liquidation pallets of customer returns and unsold inventory bought at auction.
Is it profitable?
It can be, because the format eliminates per-item handling and pricing costs, which are what make low-value surplus uneconomic elsewhere.
